SAFEWAY/SOBEYS $1,000,000 SCORE & WIN (The “Contest”)



1.        AIR MILES

Enrollment in the AIR MILES Reward Program is required to participate in the Contest. If you are not enrolled in the AIR MILES Reward Program, you may enroll online at By enrolling to become an AIR MILES Collector in the AIR MILES Reward Program, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of the AIR MILES Reward Program as amended from time to time.


The Contest will commence on October 3, 2018 at 8:00 am Mountain Time and will operate throughout the 2018-2019 National Hockey League (“NHL”) regular season and playoffs. The Contest is open to Canadian residents of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northern Ontario who have reached the age of majority in their province of residence, except employees (and those with whom such employees are domiciled) or agents of Sobeys Capital Incorporated ("Sponsor") or its parent companies, affiliates, or franchisees, Promotivate LP (“Promotivate”), TSN, Rogers Sportsnet, NHL or any NHL Team, LoyaltyOne Co. (“LoyaltyOne”) and their respective advertising and promotional agencies.


Customers will automatically receive a Safeway/Sobeys $1,000,000 Score & Win entry every time they shop at any Safeway or Sobeys location in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Northern Ontario, providing that their AIR MILES® Card is swiped at the checkout. Entries are valid for a period of two (2) months, after which time the database may be cleared.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Anyone fulfilling the conditions of Rule 2 can enter by sending his or her name, address, telephone number and AIR MILES Card number to:

4.        PRIZES

                4.1        PRIZE FOR FIVE (5) GOALS IN ONE (1) GAME

Should any Vancouver Canucks’, Calgary Flames’, Edmonton Oilers’ or Winnipeg Jets’ player score five (5) goals in one (1) game (excluding goals scored during a shootout) during the 2018-2019 regular season or playoffs (as recorded by the NHL official game scorer), one contestant, through a Regionalized Random Draw of all entries received (as hereafter defined), will qualify to win an annuity paying $50,000 per year for 20 years. Regionalized Random Draw shall mean that: residents of British Columbia are eligible for the Canucks’ draws; residents of Northern Alberta are eligible for the Oilers’ draws; residents of Southern Alberta are eligible for the Flames’ draws; residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Northern Ontario are eligible for the Jets’ draws. The payout is governed by Revenue Canada’s rules for Prescribed Annuities. Payment of any and all taxes, or other charges associated with the $1,000,000 annuity prize are the sole responsibility of the potential prize winner.

Please note the special conditions of the $1,000,000 annuity prize:

One entry is drawn prior to each regular season and playoff Vancouver Canucks’, Calgary Flames’, Edmonton Oilers’ and Winnipeg Jets’ game during the 2018-2019 NHL season. If five (5) goals are scored during one of the abovementioned games by a player of one of the abovementioned teams (excluding goals scored during a shootout), Promotivate, (hereafter sometimes referred to as the "Judges") will make all reasonable efforts to contact the person whose name was drawn. If the Judges, acting reasonably, cannot contact the selected entrant within ten (10) business days of the date of the relevant game, another name will be drawn. The Judges will then make reasonable efforts to contact that person within ten (10) further business days, failing which another name will be drawn, and so on, until a selected entrant is contacted. There can be only two (2) $1,000,000 annuity prize winners during the contest period.

                4.2        OTHER PRIZES

In addition to the possibility of awarding the $1,000,000 Annuity Prize in accordance with Rule 4.1 above, other prizes will be awarded through Regionalized Random Draws from the applicable Region outlined above as follows:

PRIZES FOR GOALS: Ten (10) twenty-five dollar ($25.00) Sobeys Gift Cards will be awarded for each goal scored by the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets throughout the 2018-2019 regular season and playoffs (not including goals scored during a shootout):

Odds of winning any Sobeys Gift Card depend upon the number of entries received and the number of goals scored during relevant games. All prizes must be accepted as awarded with no substitutions (cash or otherwise). Maximum of one (1) prize per household.

PRIZE FOR FOUR (4) GOALS IN ONE (1) GAME: $100,000 will be awarded each time four (4) goals are scored in one game by a player on one of the abovementioned teams during the games indicated above. (Excluding goals scored during a shootout.) Limit of two (2) $100,000 prizes during the contest period, after which time it will be discontinued.

If zero or one $100,000 prize are not awarded as outlined above, the remaining $100,000 prize(s) will be awarded via a random draw at the conclusion of the contest.

PRIZES FOR THREE (3) GOALS BY ONE (1) PLAYER IN A GAME: A $1,000 Sobeys Gift Card will be awarded each time three (3) goals are scored in one game by a player (“Hat-Trick”) on one of the abovementioned teams during the games indicated above. (Goals scored during a shootout do not count towards a Hat-Trick.) Odds of winning a Sobeys Gift Card depend upon the number of entries received and the number of Hat-Tricks scored during relevant games.


Potential winners will be judged and prizes awarded based on correctly answering, unaided, a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question and signing a Liability/Publicity release. Potential winners that do not meet these conditions will not be eligible to receive a prize. Every eligible winner will receive his/her prize within six (6) weeks after verification. If the $1,000,000 prize is awarded, the winner will be paid in accordance with the terms in Rule 4.1.

No correspondence will be entered into except with potential winners and winners. Promotivate is the sole judge and its decision about any aspect of this contest shall be final and binding. Sobeys Capital Incorporated and Promotivate reserve the right to use winners’ names, comments, videotaped messages and/or photographs in any advertising or publicity, with no compensation to the winners. Potential winner names and city of residence may appear online as well as televised on Sportsnet Pacific, Sportsnet Canucks, Sportsnet West, Sportsnet Flames, Sportsnet Oilers and TSN Jets.

Promotivate may, at its option at any time, substitute any prize for one of equal or greater value throughout the Contest Period.

Sobeys Capital Incorporated, LoyaltyOne and Promotivate shall not be responsible for any electronic network, computer problem or any other technical error of any kind. Sobeys Capital Incorporated, LoyaltyOne and Promotivate and their respective affiliates, agents, officers, directors and employees shall not be responsible for lost or misdirected entries, for any computer/database failures or for any electronic, network, computer problem or any technical or other error as well as for any liability attributable in any way to the prizes awarded in this contest.

Sobeys Capital Incorporated, LoyaltyOne, and Promotivate will not be responsible for any adjustments in scheduling of NHL hockey games, Rogers Sportsnet and/or TSN telecasts or for any event which may affect store operations and thereby force the Contest to cease operations either temporarily or permanently. The Judges reserve the right to terminate or modify the Contest at any time without prior notification.

Entry into this contest constitutes acceptance of these Contest Rules.

LoyaltyOne, Bell Media, and Rogers Media Inc. are not sponsors of the Contest and shall not be liable for any error, omission, or other defect in the management, administration and/or advertising of the Contest.
